Message regarding the COVID-19 pandemic

In these uncertain times, the Friends of the Durham Library remains committed to maintaining the safety of our members and volunteers. We are eager to get back to sharing our love of books and serving the Durham community, but we are unable to accept donations and conduct our book sales at this time. When the Durham County Libraries re-open we hope to continue our mission of supporting the library's programs.

Thank you.

How to Donate Items

The Friends of the Durham Library is nonprofit that helps fund programs, services, and materials at Durham County Library. You can help by becoming a member, attending a book sale at Books Among Friends, and by donating gently used books.

There are two ways to donate books to the Friends

  • Bring your books directly to East, North, South, or Southwest Regional Libraries or Stanford L. Warren Branch Library during regular operating hours, and staff will happily accept your donations as space permits. Feel free to call ahead.
  • For larger donations, or for help with boxes and bags, please bring your books to the Friends, at Northgate, on Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Look for the “Donate Books” sign on the sidewalk beside Catherines. Ring the doorbell to the left of the door if a volunteer isn’t outside to help you unload your vehicle.

We accept gently used books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDS. We do not accept encyclopedias, magazines, VHS tapes, cassettes or condensed books.

Questions? Call 919-695-3505 or email FODLdonations@gmail.com.

We deeply appreciate your donation and your support of the Friends of the Durham Library.
